WHO ARE THE BERDAN SHARPSHOOTERS?

The First and Second Regiments of the United States SharpShooters (Berdan's SharpShooters) served in the Eastern Theater of the Civil War from 1861 through early 1865 with the muster out of the final company.

The regiments were created by Hiram Berdan with the idea that regiments of marksmen could have a significant impact on the outcome of the American Civil War.

The Berdan SharpShooters fought using tactics and weapons that more closely resemble the modern military than their contemporaries. Besides fighting as skirmishers the Berdan's Sharpshooters performed in a role similar to what is now called snipers.

REENACTING COMPANY 'C'

We are a Civil War reenactment organization and a member of the National Civil War Association of California. While the company we portray is part of the First Regiment and primarily consisted of soldiers from Michigan, our company's recruits come from Northern and Central California.

Our unit participates in living history events, reenactments and in-school educational programs. Some of us have even travelled back east to participate in events back there.

A couple of quick answes to some question that are asked of us are: yes, we camp out here all weekend and cook our own food, and the uniforms do get hot a times.

If this sounds like something you'd like to participate in, or to learn more about Berdan's Sharpshooters and our company, old and new, please come on in and take a look around.
